Revolutionizing Instruction With Tablet PC’s
Are
you ready to learn how to use web-based tools in your classroom to improve the
sharing of ideas, problems, questions and solutions among students? Join host Kevin Jarrett (SL: KJ Hax) for a
discussion with cross-disciplinary team of educators from Clemson University who
successfully integrated Tablet PC’s into their curriculum as part of the HP
Technology for Teaching Grant program. Hear classroom success stories and
lessons learned from this diverse group of educators—Marilyn Reba (SL: Zahlen Zimmer), Department of Mathematical Sciences, Lisa Benson
(SL: Poco Orsini), Department of

Episode Guests
Lisa Benson
SL: Poco Orsini
Lisa Benson is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Engineering and Science Education at Clemson University, with a joint appointment in the Department of Bioengineering. Dr. Benson teaches first year engineering, undergraduate research methods, and graduate engineering education courses. Her research interests include student-centered active learning in undergraduate engineering, assessment of motivation, and how motivation affects student learning. She is also involved in projects that utilize Tablet PCs to enhance student learning. Her education includes a B.S. in Bioengineering from the University of Vermont, and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Bioengineering from Clemson University.
Marilyn Reba
SL: Zahlen Zimmer
Marilyn Reba is faculty member in the Department of Mathematical Sciences at Clemson University since 2003. She previously taught at Purdue University and Loyola University of Chicago.
Having received a Ph.D from University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Marilyn teaches a variety of undergraduate mathematics courses, including honors and creative inquiry courses. She is the rotating Course Coordinator and Graduate Student Teaching Advisor. Her recent grants include 2006 and 2007 Hewlett Packard Technology grants, and a 2008 NSF Grant. She is the recipient of Clemson University's 2008 Award for Innovation in Teaching and Technology.
Barbara Weaver
SL: Beby Writer
Barbara Weaver is Senior Consultant for Faculty Relations and Innovation and adjunct faculty for the Department of English at Clemson University. Her innovative and pedagogically-sound use of laptops in English and communication studies courses engaged her students and inspired engineering and science students to report their increased appreciation of and expertise in written, oral, and digital communication.
She is the author of “Laptops in the Humanities: Classroom Walls Come Tumbling Down,” published in Enhancing Learning with Laptops in the Classroom, for which she is co-editor. In her current position, she enjoys most her continued work with faculty to explore teaching with technology and to design and explore the use of experimental learning spaces. She recently wrote an article in Educause Quarterly on this topic. Teaching one class each semester provides an important opportunity to stay connected to students as they and the teaching and learning environment evolve.
